REMOVE WINDOWS MESSENGER OR DISABLE WINDOWS MESSENGER AUTOMATIC START UP ON WINDOWS XP
Windows Messenger is an Instant Messenger Software that comes along bundles with Windows XP and other Windows operating system. It is by default comes installed with the system and runs on the background during start up.
If you are using Windows Messenger then it’s a good thing that you have it automatically started to save some few clicks to run it. However there are times when the chat software is not used for a particular session of the computer. Thus, loading it automatically and shelving it on the system tray only slows down the computer and uses some computer memory.
Loading this seemingly small instant messaging software is not a problem at all for fast computer hardware configuration. But this is trouble for old slower computer that runs on Pentium IV processor with 128 Mb RAM. The solution is to disable Windows Messenger automatically during Windows XP start up.
How to remove Windows Messenger using System Configuration Utility:
- click start -> run
- enter “msconfig” command on the Run open dialogue box
- click OK button
- click Startup tab on the System Configuration Utility window
- uncheck “msmsgs” item on the list
- click Apply button
- close the window
- restart the computer
Windows Messenger was not loaded anymore and could not be found on the system tray. Hopefully you’ll save little computer memory resource by fixing the annoying Windows Messenger automatic start up problem.
