TURNING OFF ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE SPEED UP WINDOWS XP START UP LOADING
A computer that’s connected to the Internet risk of being attacked by computer virus, trojans, malware, spyware, and other malicious programs. Keeping computer in top shape requires it to be free of computer virus infection. In Windows XP operating systems there’s a dedicated Windows Security Center that helps manage the essential security required for the computer.
Essential Windows Operating System security:
- Firewall
- Automatic Updates
- Virus Protection
A fresh installed Windows operating system should have all essential security settings turned on. Failure to turn on those settings would risk the computer of security breach, open for hackers, or infection of malicious programs and computer virus.
Old computers with Pentium based processors and memory of about 128Mb having Windows XP operating system is kind of slow. Aggravating the problem of slowness is the loading of antivirus software during start up. Sometimes scheduled computer virus scanning disrupts work even to a halt. This is because older antivirus software are bloated and full of features that are sometimes using up lots of computer resource.
A solution would be to install newer, leaner, and updated antivirus software that could have little footprint on the computer memory. This will result in computer protection from Internet borne threats while using up as minimal resources.
A more drastic solution would be to turn off antivirus software loading start up. This is NOT ADVISABLE though when the computer is connected to the Internet. Stand alone computers that is not connected to any other computer or external media such as USB data drives could very well disable start up loading of antivirus software. Turning on only the antivirus scanner when needed and by setting off antivirus software loading during startup would improve Windows XP loading.
